Are You Struggling to See Your Own Greatness?

Have you ever noticed how easily you can recognise the strengths, gifts and potential in the people around you, yet struggle to see those same qualities within yourself?

You may be the woman who encourages her partner, supports her children, reassures her friends and helps her colleagues believe in what is possible. You see what others are capable of becoming. You remind them of their value when they have forgotten it. You give your time, energy and wisdom generously.

And yet, when someone asks you about your strengths, your dreams or what makes you remarkable, you may find yourself searching for an answer.

This is something I see often in women, particularly in midlife. After years of caring, giving, working, adapting and meeting the needs of others, many women have lost touch with their own greatness. Their gifts have not disappeared. Their dreams have not become irrelevant. They have simply spent so long directing their attention outwards that they are no longer accustomed to seeing themselves clearly.

When you lose sight of your own value

Struggling to see your greatness is about more than feeling modest or finding it difficult to accept a compliment. Over time, it can affect the way you experience yourself and the choices you believe you are entitled to make.

You may begin to question whether you are good enough. You may minimise what you do well or assume that your natural abilities are nothing special. You may compare yourself with other women and decide that they are more confident, capable or deserving. When an opportunity appears, you may hesitate, remain in the background or convince yourself that the time is not right.

You may also lose faith in the dreams that once stirred something within you.

Perhaps you once wanted to write, create, study, travel, begin a business, explore your spirituality or contribute to the world in a meaningful way. Those dreams may have been placed aside while you attended to the practical responsibilities of life. After enough time has passed, you may struggle even to remember what you wanted, or feel guilty for wanting something that belongs to you.

The emotional cost can appear as exhaustion, apathy, resentment or a sense that something is missing. Life may look perfectly acceptable from the outside, while inwardly you feel disconnected from the woman you know yourself to be.

Your greatness is not about being superior to anyone else. It is the unique combination of your character, wisdom, strengths, experiences, values and natural gifts. It is the part of you that feels alive when you are expressing what is true and meaningful to you.

When this part of you is continually overlooked, your life can begin to feel smaller than the life your soul is asking you to live.

I know this journey personally

Many years ago, I could see the potential in everyone around me, yet I struggled to recognise my own.

I gave my attention, encouragement and support to family, friends, partners, children, work colleagues and employers. I was skilled at identifying what other people needed and what they were capable of achieving. I found meaning in helping them move forward.

At the same time, I shied away from acknowledging my own strengths. I had not yet learned how to appreciate the gifts I carried or how to give myself permission to pursue the life that was calling me.

Perhaps you recognise this pattern. Giving to others can be a beautiful expression of love and compassion. A sustainable, fulfilling life also includes your own wellbeing, growth and dreams within that circle of care.

My own transformation began with a deep inner search to find and understand myself. I started asking different questions. Who am I beneath the roles I fulfil? What matters deeply to me? What are my natural strengths? What brings me alive? What kind of life feels aligned with my truth?

As my answers became clearer, I began making different choices. Some relationships changed. My priorities changed. Most importantly, the relationship I had with myself changed.

That journey eventually led me to write and publish The Power of Soul Loving: A Spiritual Guide to Love and Freedom. I wanted women to understand that another way of living is available, one grounded in self-love, truth, personal freedom and a genuine appreciation of who they are.

I came to understand that seeing my greatness was not an act of ego. It was an act of self-recognition. It allowed me to use my gifts with greater purpose and to offer something meaningful through the life I was creating.

Awareness is where transformation begins

The first step towards recognising your greatness is becoming aware of the ways you have learned to diminish it.

You may dismiss praise, speak critically about yourself, compare your beginning with another woman's progress or wait for outside approval before trusting what you feel called to do. You may describe your gifts as ordinary because they come naturally to you. You may postpone your desires with thoughts such as, “Maybe later,” “I should be grateful for what I have,” or “Other people need me more.”

Awareness gives you the opportunity to see these patterns with compassion. Many women have been shaped by messages that encouraged self-sacrifice, agreeableness and service while offering little guidance on self-recognition. These patterns may have helped you feel accepted, needed or safe at an earlier stage of life. Now you can decide whether they continue to support the woman you are evolving into.

Acceptance is also an important part of this process. You are allowed to accept that you have strengths. You are allowed to name your gifts. You are allowed to desire a fulfilling life and to make your dreams part of your priorities.

Try asking yourself:

  • What do people naturally come to me for?

  • What have I moved through that has given me wisdom, resilience or compassion?

  • When do I feel most energised, engaged and like my true self?

  • Which strengths have I been treating as ordinary because they come easily to me?

  • What dream continues to return, even after I have placed it aside?

Your answers offer valuable clues. Greatness is often revealed through the qualities you use every day: your ability to listen, create, organise, nurture, lead, teach, intuit, heal, persevere or bring people together.

The next action may be very small. Write down five strengths you recognise in yourself. Ask someone you trust what they see in you. Return to an activity that once brought you joy. Speak one of your dreams aloud. Give yourself an hour each week to explore something that matters to you.

Every act of self-recognition begins to restore your belief in what is possible.

How Do You Want to Feel in Midlife?

Make a commitment to the woman you are evolving into

Awareness opens the door. Commitment helps you walk through it.

Your commitment does not need to begin with a dramatic reinvention of your life. It begins by choosing to include yourself in the future you are creating.

You might commit to listening to your inner voice before automatically agreeing to what others want. You might protect time for your wellbeing or creative expression. You might seek guidance, join a supportive community, begin a course or take one practical step towards a long-held goal.

This matters because self-belief grows through lived evidence. Each time you honour a need, use a strength, express an idea or keep a promise to yourself, you show yourself that you can be trusted. Confidence becomes something you build through aligned action.

Your dreams also need a place in your life if they are to grow. They need your attention, energy and willingness. Giving them that space is a way of affirming that your life matters and that your contribution has value.

One helpful commitment may be:

I will give myself permission to recognise my gifts, value my needs and take one meaningful step towards the life I want to create.

Allow that commitment to become practical. Decide what your one meaningful step will be and when you will take it. A dream becomes more tangible when it is supported by a choice.

What becomes possible when you see yourself clearly

As I learned to recognise my strengths and honour my inner truth, I began to experience greater clarity about who I was and how I wanted to live. That clarity created momentum. It supported me in writing my book, changing aspects of my life and building work centred on helping women reconnect with themselves.

I am now living a dream that once needed my permission: using my gifts to see the potential in women and guide them towards their own self-belief, fulfilment and personal evolution.

This is the evidence I return to. When we begin to value ourselves, we become more available for an authentic life. We make choices with greater confidence. We form healthier relationships with our needs and boundaries. We reconnect with our creativity and purpose. We begin to make visible progress towards the dreams that once felt distant.

The outcome is not a perfected version of you. It is a fuller expression of who you already are.

This is the heart of The S.E.E. Way: a philosophy for living that supports women to create greater calm, awaken their inner wisdom and embody their truth through meaningful personal evolution. You are not required to become someone different. You are being invited to become more fully yourself.

If you have been feeling exhausted, uninspired, resentful or disconnected, perhaps your inner self is asking to be seen again. Midlife can become a powerful season of reconnection - a time to gather the wisdom of your experiences and choose how you want to live from here.

Life is worth living, and it is worth living well.

Your happiness can be honoured now. Your gifts can be expressed now. Your dreams can be given a place in your life now.

If you are struggling to see your own greatness, I invite you to begin with one simple truth:

You matter. Your gifts matter. The life you want to create matters.

And if you would like support to reconnect with your true self, recognise your natural strengths and move forward with greater calm, clarity and confidence, I would be honoured to walk this path with you.

Reach out to ask me about The S.E.E. Way and let us explore what your next step could be.
