The transformational process of spiritual growth can feel excruciating at times, as we struggle in our own shadows, fearful of the change and mindful we don’t want the rest of the world to know what we are going through. Most people believe pain and struggle is something bad and to be avoided. However, the ‘process’ of transformation is as important as the new version of who we become. We can liken the transformational process to the metamorphosis of the caterpillar in the cocoon, encased in the darkness, struggling through change in our mind, body and soul. We have no vision of what we are becoming, yet we know we are going through it! The mother in labour knows that the struggle and the pain of the birthing process has a higher purpose, and so with a mixture of courage and surrender she allows her body to move through the transformation, knowing there is an end in sight and a new life will soon be born.
The ‘process’ of transformation is as important as the new version of who we become. It’s in the process that we experience resistance and surrender, the struggle with fear, as well as the discomfort and the illumination of our soul growth as we adapt to the changes. The process of death and rebirth cannot be avoided if we are to experience true transformation. Most people believe pain and struggle is something bad and to be avoided. However, if we can see beyond our immediate fear and discomfort, we'll know more deeply there is a blessing that comes with the trials, and a greater understanding of how we move from darkness into the light. If we were to interrupt this vital metamorphosis, we would not achieve our ascension to a new spiritual consciousness and awakening. When we go through any period of change it can feel uncomfortable, unfamiliar and even frightening. There is uncertainty stepping into the unknown, and when we hold on tightly to what we think we know, afraid of the change, we actually block the opportunity for a better life. However, if we surrender to the ebb and flow of our personal evolution, we can more readily embrace the changes, knowing that what is unfolding is for our greater good. The caterpillar does not resist change. It instinctively knows the process is necessary for living life to the fullest extent. Fear is the illusion that keeps us bound, small and unchanged. Fear of the unknown, fear of failure, fear of success, fear of change, fear of not being accepted, fear of what people think. Fear is the place where we never come to realise our truth, our inner beauty or our unlimited potential. It’s the place that keeps us chained so that we never know the possibilities in life, only what we have experienced so far. Imagine if the caterpillar never became the beautiful butterfly; radiant, light, unaffected by the gravity of life and free to explore a new way of being. Why do we stay in that place of fear, limiting our own potential? Isn’t it easier to keep still and not rock the boat when everything seems okay? Right? Well, if we are content to stay in the boat and not go anywhere, then it may seem okay for a while, until we start to feel our life fade away, along with meaning and purpose. When we avoid making the choice to grow, to elevate ourself to the next level of spiritual awareness, personal leadership, self-love and abundance, we inevitably manifest dis-ease and inner conflict in our energetic body, mind and soul. Despite our rhetoric that we are completely happy with our stagnation (aka no change), we can end up creating an emotional and spiritual weight that sits heavily inside of our being. It's the weight and dullness of mediocrity that dims our soul-light. In time, our spirit suffers and the light of inspiration and creation begins to diminish and slowly die. The choice to move from darkness to light takes courage, and if we choose to step out of our comfort zone, we do so with the knowledge that spiritual growth takes us to a new level of love and abundance that cannot be sustained with stagnation. When the veil of darkness and ignorance lifts and the light of self-awareness burns within us, the voice of our Soul grows louder and stronger, calling us to step away from fear and move into greater love in our life. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Excerpt from "The Power of Soul Loving - A Spiritual Guide to Love and Freedom" (Balboa Press, 2019 - Chapter 11, Becoming Friends with Fear) Discover how to navigate change and transformation.
